Who should join SEN courses ?

Special Education is a branch of education that is dedicated towards students, whosephysical, cognitive, language, learning, sensory, and/or emotional abilities deviate from the general population. Teachers and educators, who are trained in SEN Courses for Teachers, provide ample support and guidance to students who are unable to gain proper access to education. This specialised branch of science has evolved, after many years of research, and has come a long way to offer services to students with varying degrees and types of disabilities. Such disabilities include mental retardation, emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, communication or speech based disabilities, deafness or hearing impairments, blindness or low vision, autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, traumatic brain injury, other forms of health impairments and severe/ multiple disabilities.

The criterion for student segregation was often based on perceived disability levels. Later on, educational professionals realized that segregating children from their peers was a form of discrimination and the concept of mainstreaming children into age-appropriate classroom settings began to take hold.In the contemporary time, schools across the globe are showing interest and are adopting an inclusive classroom practice, which is slowly changing the picture of a normal classroom. Individual education plans are made to meet the requirements of children with special needs. Due to this rise in special education awareness and the number of inclusive classrooms, the demands for special educators are also on the rise. The countries in demand of SEN teachers are: Thailand, India, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. In SEN training courses, the teaching aspirants are taught on the various ways to treat children with special needs. They also develop Individualised Education Programs (IEPs) for individual students depending on their strengths, abilities and development areas, and help them develop their academic and behavioural skills along with social skills.

Special education is a learner- centric way of education, more focus is being put into using various physical activities and combining technology along with it. Students have been seen to perform better under the trained supervision of a special educator, who not only prepares lessons and resources, but also plays a major role in developing and adapting the conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of the students. So, aspiring teachers willing to venture into the world of teaching or anyone with an entrepreneurial mind willing to open a day-care centre, or work as a caregiver, be an assistant SEN teacher, work as a special educator etc. may pursue a course in Special Needs Teacher Training and foray into the field of special education. Even nannies, who are trained and certified in Special Education needs courses, are preferred over those who are not. SEN courses aid the aspiring teachers to get a hold of the various requirements of an individual so as to guide them towards a better future. It is a quite a diverse field and so, enrolling in a course in this field not only restricts a person to the post of a teacher. Since a SEN educator's job responsibilities also involve communicating and co-ordinating with the parents, class teachers and school psychologists/counsellors(if any) and administrators, a training program also comprise ofhow to properly communicate with them.
